Intercede for Your City (IV)
If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14
Bible Reading: Nehemiah 1
Over the past few days, we have been reflecting on the need to be faithful intercessors. This is because as Christians, we are called to make supplication and prayers for everyone. There is power is praying and in praying for others because the effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man or woman avails much. The ultimate goal is to reinforce God’s kingdom and His will here on earth (Matthew 6:10). It also means seeking first God’s kingdom and his righteousness by making God the priority (Matthew 6:33). Each time we choose God over everything else, we are reiterating our love and allegiance to Him. The act of interceding helps us bring others unto God while we drop ourselves aside. It is a faith gesture and an act of love. Finally, how should we approach this God given mandate? Nehemiah’s response from today’s reading answers this question. When he heard that the city of Jerusalem was in ruins, he rend his heart and cried to God. His response is summarized in our memory verse today answers: “If My people, who are called by My name, shall humble themselves, pray, seek, crave, and require of necessity My face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven, forgive their sin, and heal their land” 2 Chronicles 7:14 (AMP). To be called God’s people means to be redeemed and sanctified of the Lord. Washed by the precious Blood of Jesus, baptized in the name of Jesus and filled with the Holy Spirit. Such a person is called by the name of Jesus.
Furthermore, like Nehemiah, we are to humble ourselves by admitting our sin (and that of the world) and recognizing God’s ability to save and deliver us from our wicked ways. Then we can pray, earnestly seek the Lord and turn from our wicked ways. When we have done these, God will hear from heaven, forgive our sin and heal our land. Most times, we are concerned that God has not done His part when really, it is us that have not played our part in the equation. We forget that God’s word is His bond. How can we to live in iniquity and expect our intercession to be heard? Apostle Paul asks: Shall we continue in sin so that grace may abound? (Romans 6:1). Dear friends, intercession is a serious business in God’s agenda and it should be a lifestyle. May God help us to diligently seek Him and be young faithful stewards.
Action point: Ask the Lord to release upon you grace for supplication for the purpose of intercession.
Intercessory prayer: Pray for God’s healing for those who are sick and the needs of as many people that come to your heart.
Song: Prayer is the key, prayer is the key
Prayer is the master key,
Jesus started with prayer
And ended with prayer
Prayer is the master key.
