A Faithful Follower (II)
And Ruth said, Intreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God: Where thou diest, will I die, and there will I be buried: the Lord do so to me, and more also, if ought but death part thee and me. When she saw that she was stedfastly minded to go with her, then she left speaking unto her. Ruth 1:16-18 (KJV)
Bible Reading: Ruth 1
There are some silent individuals in the Bible that only heaven can reveal their impact to us. Such people don’t seem to have done a lot according to human standard. In fact, we don’t even hear about them or maybe we just read about them in passing but God recognizes their contributions and the value they carry. Examples include the woman with alabaster box (Matthew 26:7; Mark 14:3), Moses’ mother (Exodus 2), Timothy’s grandmother and mother (2 Timothy 1:5), Epaphras (Colossians 4:12) and Naomi the focus of our reflection today among others. Although nothing is written about Naomi other than the fact that the evil that befell Naomi— the death of her husband (Elimelech) and her two sons (Mahlon and Chilion). In this midst of this, Naomi’s live still attracted someone to the land of Judah and to God. Ruth must have seen something of noteworthy in the life of Naomi. Perhaps it was the way Naomi lived her life; her lifestyle, her principle, her devotion to God etc. Despite her negative experiences, Naomi’s life became a testimony. Here’s how Ruth was impressed and determined to follow Naomi: “And Ruth said, Intreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God: Where thou diest, will I die, and there will I be buried: the Lord do so to me, and more also, if ought but death part thee and me.” (Ruth 1:16-17). Dear friends, what fruit is your life producing? Is your life attracting people to Christ? Like Naomi, our lives should bring others to Christ. Be a deliberate evangelist for Christ.
