A Faithful Follower (IV)
But without faith it is impossible to please Him: for that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. (Hebrews 11:6)
Bible Reading: Ruth 4
Yesterday, we reflected on the need to submit and surrender unto God. Like Ruth followed Naomi’s instruction and guidance, we are to follow Jesus Christ wholeheartedly for as many that are led by the Spirit of God are called sons of God (Romans 8:14).
The story of Ruth unveils the possibilities in God when we obey and follow Him sincerely. Ruth’s story also reiterates the need for perseverance and endurance when passing through difficult situation. We are not promised a challenge-free life, rather God promised to be with us even in the valley of the shadow of death (Psalm 23:4; Isaiah 43). We are assured of God’s guidance and instruction (Psalm 32:8). Ruth had these virtues and she was neither barren nor fruitful in the knowledge of God. Ruth did not follow Naomi because of any gain, rather she followed and obeyed Naomi because of love. Ruth loved Naomi to the point that she found their destiny intertwined and inseparably. Ruth gave up everything (her people, culture, the known etc) to follow Naomi. Finally, Ruth’s story shows that God is truly the rewarder of them that diligently seek Him (Hebrews 11:6). God intervened in her situation; Ruth married Boaz and God recognized her faithfulness. Ruth’s name was in the genealogy of Jesus Christ (Matthew 1:5). Who would have thought that a Moabite would have been connected to the lineage of Jesus earthly family? Dear friend, why are you following Jesus Christ? Is it because of the battle in your life? Or because you have a need you want Him to meet? We have to follow Jesus because of love. Like Ruth, we have to denial ourselves, carry our cross and follow Jesus (Luke 9:23). Our motivation to follow Jesus has to be out of love because He first loved us (1 John 4:19).
Daily Confession: I surrender my life to Jesus Christ and choose to listen and follow the Holy Spirit daily for as many that are led by the Spirit are called sons of God in Jesus name, amen.
Intercessory prayer: Pray for those who are backsliding and struggling in their faith for God’s restoration and visitation.
Hymn: I surrender all (x2)
Unto Thee my blessed Saviour
I surrender all.
