An Easy Follower (I)
For the Lord had said unto Moses, Say unto the children of Israel, Ye are a stiffnecked people: I will come up into the midst of thee in a moment, and consume thee: therefore now put off thy ornaments from thee, that I may know what to do unto thee. Exodus 33:5 [KJV]
Bible Reading: Exodus 24
Thank God for faithful leaders who have and continue to guide me in my life. The children of Israel had Moses and Moses served them faithfully. He was an intercessor and many times, Moses would intercede for the Israelites before God. On this particular occasion, God instructed Moses to climb up to Mount Sinai where God wanted to give Moses the Ten Commandments. Moses went up to meet with the Lord and after forty days when the people did not see Moses return from the mountain, they decided to create a new god for themselves. They asked Aaron to make them a golden calf and claimed that it is this golden image that brought them out of Egypt. The shift was very swift and unimaginable. How could they give glory to a man-made image— despite the amazing testimonies, miracles and God’s awesome presence that was evident in their journey and among them. Aaron asked them to bring all the golden earrings and ornaments they brought from Egypt, and made the people a golden calf. The children of Israel rejoiced, dance and worship this image. Of course God knew all that was happening because He is omnipotent and omnipresent. God was angry, Moses pleaded on behalf of the Israelites for God not to wipe them off. Dear friend, we may point accusing fingers at the Israelites, the question is, are we different today? How often do we abandon our walk with God when we face small trouble? Are you submissive or rebellious to those God has placed as leaders over you? May God help us to evaluate our faithfulness as followers.
Daily Confession: Lord I receive the grace to be an obedient and submissive follower in Jesus name.
Intercessory prayer: pray for leaders (such as fathers, mothers, spiritual leaders (within the five fold ministry), leaders in the secular world etc for God’s grace, wisdom and strength to lead aright.
Hymn: Ancient Word ever true
Changing in me, and changing in you.
We have come with open hearts
Oh let the Ancient Word impact.
