A Turned Heart
As Solomon grew old, his wives turned his heart after other gods, and his heart was not fully devoted to the LORD his God, as the heart of David his father had been. 1 Kings 11:4 (NIV)
Bible Reading: 1 Kings 11:1-13
The most important thing is to love God. Our love for God should compel us to develop a continuous relationship with Him through His only son Jesus Christ. And our love for God is evident in how much and how well we obey Him. Even though we may not see the state of your heart, God sees it crystal clear.
In our Bible reading today, we see the amazing life of king Solomon. God dealt generously with him because David, that is Solomon’s father. Solomon was able to built the temple for the Lord and it turned out that he did amazing things that were unprecedented. God gave Solomon wisdom as king Solomon requested during the dedication of the temple. However, there was something Solomon did not dealt with – his love for women. He had 700 women and 300 hundred concubines. Many of them were from the places God warned the children of Israel not to marry. Alas, when king Solomon grew old, when his age couldn’t make his resist the temptation to go after other God; when he couldn’t insist and remain adamant to worship God, his wives from other countries that worship gods turned his heart away from God.  In fact, Solomon’s heart had turned away from God once before this particular time. The goal for the next few days is not to paint king Solomon bad, rather we will consider his life to glean lessons that we can apply to our lives as we run the earthly race.
Dear friends, here’s the questions to ponder on: What is that presumptuous sin in your life? May you be like Apostle Paul who said, ‘I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what it should. Otherwise, I fear that after preaching to others I myself might be disqualified’ (1 Corinthians 9:27).
Daily Confession: Keep your servant also from willful sins; may they not rule over me. Then I will be blameless, innocent of great transgression (Psalm 19:13).
Intercessory prayers: Pray for God’s protection over your family and loved ones at this time.
Hymn: Lord, lift me up, and let me stand,
By faith on Heaven’s tableland;
A higher plane than I have found,
Lord, plant my feet on higher ground.
