Love the Lord

Jesus said unto him, thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. Matthew 22:37 [KJV]

Bible Reading: Deuteronomy 6:12-13

When we love God, He becomes the centre of our focus. We live to please Him, we continually seek after Him, and like the psalmist, our souls will long and pant for Him (Psalm 42 & 62). If you love God, nothing matters than pleasing God. Regardless of the cost, you will consider loving God and living for Him most important. It is about devotion and dedication unto God. Fellowship and relationship are important; hence, your focus will be on cultivating deeper fellowship and communion with God each day.

Furthermore, to love God means to love others. If we do not love people that we see, how then can we confess to love God whom we do not see? (1 John 4:12). In fact, there is no way we confess to love God that we won’t love fellow human beings. It is easier to talk about loving others than living the life of love. Love should be seen in our deeds (I John 3:18). In Matthew 25:34-46, Christ Jesus cited two groups to support the fact that if we love one another, we are loving God, showing the love of God.

For a genuine child of God, when your love for God dwindles, it affects every aspect of your life because when we love, we dwell in God for God is love (I John 4:16). Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the son of God, God dwells in him and he in God. Always remember that you cannot love God and not love His creation.

Finally, the ultimate proof of love is obedience. For instance, Jesus Christ obeyed even to the point of death because He loved the Father. Any sacrifice unto God that is not borne out of obedience to Him is unacceptable because if you love God, you will obey Him no matter the cost (1 John, 2:3-5; Samuel 15:21-22).

Self-Reflection: Love is a multiplier; it takes sacrifice, deeds and conscious effort to humble oneself to show forth the love of Christ.

Action Point: Outline specific things you can do today to show people around you the love of God.

Daily Confession: May the love of Christ Jesus flow in me so that I can be a true ambassador of Christ. May my light so shine before men that they may see my good works and glorify my heavenly Father.
