Standing on the Promises of God (I)
Immediately the boy’s father exclaimed, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief”. Mark 9:24 (NIV)
Bible Reading: Mark 24:14-28
Jesus is the same forever (Heb. 11:3); He never changes because He is neither a man that should lie, nor son of man that should repent. When God speaks, He expects us to cooperate with Him so that His word will be fulfilled at the right time. However, it is painful that many times, we refuse to cooperate with Him and hold on to His promises tenaciously. At time, we lose faith and refuse to hold firmly to that which God has said.
In our reading today, we are challenged by the prayer of a man that knew he missed Jesus’ perspective; he understood the miracle that could happen in that second but his faith was not bold or strong enough to stand against unbelief and he cried out to God for help. Before we call unto God to help our unbelief, the first question is this: do you even know God’s promise concerning you? If you are asked what is God saying about your situation, can you reveal the mind of God about it?
God’s promises are written in the word of God. God can not contradict His word. You only need to take time to study the word and locate God’s promise concerning your situation.
Self-Reflection: Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. Romans 10:17
Daily confession: Lord deliver me from every spirit of unbelief.
Intercessory prayer: Pray for fresh hunger for God’s word in your life, in your home and in your church.
Hymn: Standing on the promises of Christ my King,
Thro’ eternal ages let His praises ring;
Glory in the highest, I will shout and sing,
Standing on the promises of God
