Acceptable offering (II)

Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. 2 Corinthians 9:7 (NIV)

Bible Reading: 2 Corinthians 9:1-11

Apostle Paul writing to the church in Corinth reminded them of their promise to give (vs 5). He had boasted to the Macedonian church about their good attitude and willingness to give. He sent some brethren ahead to get ready the gifts they had promised. Paul reminded them of the benefits of sowing generously and the need to give willingly and cheerfully and not out of compulsion. Many Christians today are too reluctant when it comes to giving generously. This has caused many pastors to go to the extreme of coining ways in order for their members to give. God hates such deceptive gimmicks. And unwilling giving doesn’t attract God’s attention like it deed when that poor widow gave all she had (Luke 21:1-4). Believers must learn to give generously without being cajoled “for God loves a cheerful giver” (vs 7). Whenever God gives us the opportunity to give in church or to the needy, it is actually a privilege made open to bless us (vs 6). As you give your time, energy and whatever resource God has blessed you with, don’t make a public show of it like the hypocrites do so that your heavenly Father who sees what you do in private will reward you. Matthew 6:1-4.

Let them flow in ceaseless praise (SS&S 616)
