Faith Dares – Marketplace

The man who had received five bags of gold went at once and put his money to work and gained five bags more. So also, the one with two bags of gold gained two more. But the man who had received one bag went off, dug a hole in the ground and hid his master’s money. Matthew 25:16-18 (NIV)

Bible Reading: Matthew 25:14-30

When God created Adam and Eve, He blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it (Genesis 1:28). Also, at the point of Jesus’ ascension to heaven, He gave His disciples a commandment “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations” (Matthew 28:18-20). He also gave gifts to his people for His purpose (Ephesians 4:8). These scriptures point out clearly that in God’s agenda, idleness is not an option. This is because He has made provisions necessary for our fruitfulness in the marketplace. The challenge seen from today’s parable is that many believers failed to identify what God has placed in their hands (i.e. His gifts). Some who identified it underestimated and buried it like a servant with one bag of gold. This is possible because of their ignorance of its value or because they have been blinded by the world system, wrong teaching and other people’s gifts, positions etc. Others are afraid of taking a step of faith to put these abilities to use. The Bible recorded that the man who received five bags of gold went at once and put his money to work. That is faith at work. Amid doubt, he took a leap of faith to use what His master had given him. During the economic recession, he took the risk to invest when the other foolishly buried his own to at least give his master exactly what he received. The man with two bags did not despise him; rather, he used it and gained two more. All God demands from you is to take a step of faith to apply for that job or contract he has given you the ability to do, to invest that idea and skill of yours to work, to start up that which he has laid in your heart no matter how small it seems. After taking this step, wait on him in faith to make it fruitful. Have you taken the step of faith, and it seems what you are into is not yielding much? Remember, do not despise the days of small beginnings (Zechariah 4:10), and though your beginning is small, your latter end shall greatly increase (Job 8:7). Remain right where God has planted you, and He will make you fruitful. The two servants who were faithful with the little God placed in their hands gained 100% more, but the one who buried him ended up in the place of weeping and gnashing of teeth. To conclude, don’t be afraid or ashamed to start small because many who became great started small.

Self-Reflection: Those who sow with tears will reap with songs of joy. Those who go out weeping, carrying seed to sow, will return with songs of joy, carrying sheaves with them. Psalms 126:5-6 (NIV)

Daily Confession: I am fruitful and multiply. I work in divine destiny, purpose and pursuit in the name of Jesus. For those that are yet to understand or discover God’s purpose for their lives, I pray for clarity and strength to launch into their divine assignment in Jesus’ name. Fear is replaced with faith in the glory of God.

Intercessory prayer: Choose someone you know needs deliverance and pray for them.

Hymn: We plow the fields and scatter the good seed on the land, but it is fed and watered by God’s almighty hand; he sends the snow in winter, the warmth to swell the grain, the breezes and the sunshine and soft refreshing rain.
