They Brought Him Gifts
On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshipped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. Matthew 2:11 (NIV)
Bible Reading: Matthew 2:1-11
Christmas is incomplete without gift-giving, It started with Jesus being the ultimate Gift given to us by our heavenly Father. Through the gift of Jesus, anyone that accepts Him will not perish but have everlasting life (John 3:16). The joy of the season inspires us to give gifts and express our love and appreciation to the people we love. In the case of Jesus, the Magi brought gold, frankincense, and myrrh. These gifts presented different aspects of Jesus’ identity. For instance, the gold signifies Jesus’ status as “King of the Jews”; frankincense represented the infant’s divinity and identity as the Son of God, and myrrh touches upon Jesus’ mortality.
We still refer to these gifts to date because they were meaningful and representative of Jesus’ identity. As we celebrate this season, it is important to be reminded that God is interested in the gift of our life — give him your heart because that’s the most important gift you can ever give him. Dear friend, as you give gifts and celebrate the season, I encourage you to give gifts of first your heart and every other thing. Amidst the gifts, may we be reminded and remind others of the most important gift, Jesus Christ.
Daily Confession:: I offer myself first to God for His glory.
Intercessory prayer: Pray for as many who are in need of Jesus Christ, that they may receive the gift of Christ and give their hearts in return unto Jesus.
Hymn: I surrender all (x2)
All to Thee my Blessed Saviour,
I surrender all.
