Focus on God and Growth (II)
I have set the Lord always before me. Because he is at my right hand, I will not be shaken (Psalm 16:8, NIV)
Bible Reading: Jeremiah 29:11
“Focus on God and Growth” is a new series we will examine for the next few days. This theme is central to the word of God, from Genesis to Revelation. God wants to be in fellowship with humanity hence He sent Jesus to restore us to Himself since Man lost it in the Garden of Eden (Matthew 1:21; Genesis 3). As we focus on God (that is, walk in His footsteps), we become like Him and show forth His glory. We are transformed and we become true ambassadors of Jesus.
Also, the focus on growth is implied when God lovingly gave us the responsibility to be fruitful, and take care of the earth and His creations (Genesis 1:28). Growth is implied because fruitfulness is a function of growth and capacity. Everyone who successfully fulfilled God’s mandate upon their lives in the Bible grew and developed capacity through studying, taking on responsibilities etc. In fact, there was a reason Jesus did not start his three and half years ministry until he turned thirty years. He had to build capacity for the journey. He had to grow and be ready for His heavenly assignment. He built a consistent habit of seeking His Father in the place of prayer (Mark 6:46; Luke 6:12). He invested in learning and studying the word of God (Luke 2:41-52). He learned obedience by the things he suffered (Hebrews 5:8) Dear friends, there is a reason we are called to focus on God and growth in every aspect of our lives as we journey through the new year. In the coming days, we will examine how to be God-centered and growth-bound. We will look into the Bible for individuals who focused on God and growth to glean some lessons from their lives. Here’s the word for today: Take God seriously and personally this year and give everything it takes to seek God earnestly and diligently (Hebrew 11:6). Finally, be intentional about your growth and build capacity for what’s ahead (Philippians 3:13). God bless you!
Action Point: Identify and write down your goals for the new year.
Intercessory prayer: Appreciate God for everyone in your circle of influence.
Hymn: I’m pressing on the upward way,
New heights I’m gaining every day;
Still praying as I onward bound,
‘Lord, plany my feet on higher ground’
