Season to Plant
There’s time for everything, a season for every activity under the heavens. (Ecclesiastes 3:1, NIV)
Bible Reading: Ecclesiastes 3:1-8
Our Bible reading today reminds me of my childhood. Growing up, we had a small sweet potato farm in our compound. My father would send us to work on the farm now and then. He’d always say, ‘you cannot harvest what you did not sow. Plant so that you can harvest at the right time. This became a mantra in our house growing up, and we used it for almost everything. The preacher gives us wise counsel from our Bible reading. He outlines different seasons and phases in life. His words remind us of the law of time and harvest.  It is wisdom to plant at the right time. For instance, it is wise for a man to take up the yoke of discipline in his youth because that’s the appropriate time to grow and build virtues that can stand the test of time (Lamentation 3:27-29). If one doesn’t do this at the right time, doing it at the wrong time will be more painful. Dear friends, as we are at the beginning of the year, I encourage you to plant. Invest in what will make you grow. Invest in your growth plan: Work on your business, take that certification course, read, fast and pray, do the work of the Lord etc. Pay the price of tilling your land and planting the right seeds. How do you plant the right seed? Apostle Paul says whatever your hand finds doing, do it heartily as unto the Lord (Colossians 3:23-24). This means pursuing excellence because they that come to God must believe he exists and He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek him (Hebrew 11:6). Plant on fertile ground, and you will reap the harvest in due course.
Self-Reflection: What seeds do you want to plant in this season?
Daily Confession: I plant the right seeds in every aspect of my life. I receive grace to pay the price of sowing diligently and heartily in every aspect of my life in Jesus’ name.
Intercessory prayer: I pray for wisdom and grace for youths around me to plant the right seeds for their future in Jesus’ name.
Hymn: I’m pressing on the upward way,
New heights I’m gaining every day;
Still praying as I onward bound,
‘Lord, plant my feet on higher ground’
