After This Marathon, What’s Next? (II)
“Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 3:13-14, NIV)
Bible Reading: Philippians 3:13-14
Yesterday we talked about the need to keep up with the momentum gathered from the early year waiting upon the Lord. We are to guard the strength and fire we have received from this period carefully. The admonition aligns with Apostle Paul’s instruction to his son in the Lord, Timothy, “For this reason, I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands.” (2 Timothy 1:6). If the devil could tempt Jesus after fasting for 40 days and night, then we are not immune from temptation (Matthew 14). It is important we continue to devote ourselves to the ministry of the word and prayer. We have to allow God’s word into our hearts, and His light will illuminate our hearts. Dear friends, we must look beyond the amazing spiritual exercise we have done in the past few weeks and months and continue focusing on Jesus. Do not go back to that sin because “you were going astray like [so many] sheep, but now you have come back to the Shepherd and Guardian (the Bishop) of your souls.” (1 Peter 2:25)
Daily Confession: I will not backslide; my delight will be in the law of the Lord in Jesus’ name.
Intercessory prayer: I pray for spiritual strength for every Christian in my sphere of influence in Jesus’ name.
Hymn: I’m pressing on the upward way
New heights I’m gaining every day
Still praying as I upward bound,
Lord, plant my feet on higher ground.
