After This Marathon, What’s Next? (III)
“Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 3:13-14, NIV)
Bible Reading: I Kings 19:1-9
Many times we point out an accusing finger at Prophet Elijah. After such an incredible, faith-moving and nation-changing miracle on Mount Carmel, why was he afraid of Jezebel? One would expect that after a high moment like that, Prophet Elijah would be bold to face Jezebel despite her threat. Elijah showed that he served a living God, yet he was afraid of Jezebel’s words. Perhaps Elijah turned to himself, thinking he was the only one standing for God, or he was afraid because of the atrocities Jezebel had committed in the past; the reality is that after such a high moment, temptations would come. If Jesus couldn’t escape it, how much of us (Matthew 4)? The solution is to go back to the basics, the word of God. Instead of panicking, turn to God’s word. Stick to “it is written”. Continue in the study of the Bible, and whenever the temptation comes, the Holy Spirit will inspire the right word from God’s word to address it.
Daily Confession: I will not backslide; my delight will be in the law of the Lord in Jesus’ name.
Intercessory prayer: I pray for spiritual strength for every Christian in my sphere of influence in Jesus’ name.
Hymn: I’m pressing on the upward way
New heights I’m gaining every day
Still praying as I upward bound,
Lord, plant my feet on higher ground.
