The Father’s Standard
But as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct. Since it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.” (1 Peter 1:15-16)
Bible Reading: 2 Timothy 2:19-26
God is holy and without holiness, no one can see the Lord (Hebrews 12:14). Due to the fall of Man in Genesis 3, we do not have what it takes to be holy, hence God sent His only Son, Jesus Christ to die for our sins. Through the blood of Jesus, we enter the Holy of Holies (Hebrews 10:19). Now we have become the righteousness of God (2 Corinthians 5:21). We were once filthy, beggars and unfit but we have been restored, cleansed and empowered for the Master’s use. In our Bible reading today Apostle Paul encouraging Timothy, his son in the Lord, speaks of the Father’s standard. God’s foundation is sure, unshakable and uncompromisable. God is holy and anyone who names the name of the Lord must stand pure and righteous. There is no amount of talent, charisma and capacity that can replace holiness. God speaking to the children of Israel says, “For I am the Lord your God. Consecrate yourselves therefore, and be holy, for I am holy. You shall not defile yourselves with any swarming thing that crawls on the ground.” (Leviticus 11:44). Dear friend, the Father seeks worshippers who will worship Him in spirit and truth (John 4:23). In everything you do, let holiness be your watchword. Finally, if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Key point: Strive for peace with everyone, and for the holiness without which no one will see the Lord.
Intercessory prayer: Pray for God’s intervention, mercy and peace in Nigeria as the country heads to the poll.
Hymn: Holy God, we praise thy name.
God of all, we bow before thee.
All on earth your sceptre claim;
all in heav’n above adore thee.
Infinite thy vast domain,
everlasting is thy reign.
