The Price of Diligence

Seest thou a man diligent in his business? He shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men. (Proverbs 22:29, KJV)

Bible Reading: Genesis 26:18-23

The word ‘diligence’ means a careful and persistent work or effort. It is a great virtue that often distinguishes high achievers from ordinary folks. People who are diligent are often referred to as painstaking, attentive to details and they are very focused when accomplishing a given task. To be diligent means to shun every distraction and be committed.

Diligence can be hard because it takes self discipline to be diligent. From today’s Bible reading, Isaac was diligent in digging a well in Gerar although the indigenes struggled with him. Isaac kept digging until he and his servants dug the third well and nobody strove with them. Naturally, Isaac would have been discouraged after digging the first and second well which were taken from him by the herdsmen of Gerar took but he persisted and pressed on until he dug the well ‘Rehoboth’. Keep pressing and never relent, you will surely sing for joy.

Daily Confession: I receive grace for diligence in all I do in Jesus name, Amen.

Intercessory prayer: Pray for God’s mercy in Turkey. Ask God to please put an end to the devastating earthquake and loss of lives.

Hymn: One day at a time, sweet Jesus

That’s all I’m asking of You

Just give me the strength to do everyday

What I have to do

Yesterday’s gone, sweet Jesus

And tomorrow may never be mine

God help me today

Show me the way

One day at a time
