Old Rugged Cross (II)
That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death; If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead. (Philippians 3:10-11, KJV).
Bible Reading: I Kings 19:19-21; Philippians 3:7-11
Apostle Paul’s manifesto anchors on knowing Jesus in life and in death; in suffering and pain. He was interested in leaving everything behind because of Jesus. He was not naive about this pursuit. In fact, he knew it would cost him his life and tremendous and impressive achievements etc. Apostle Paul was interested in focusing on the Old Rugged Cross. Apostle Paul’s vision resonants with Elisha’s actions when Elijah chose him (I Kings 19:19-21)to follow him. Elisha killed the oxen, shared the meat, bid everyone goodbye, and he never looked back. Dear friends, we cannot afford to look back, like Apostle Paul, we have to focus on Jesus because that’s all you need. We have to pick up our cross and follow Jesus daily by the strength of the Holy Spirit. We have to give ourselves away for the excellency of Christ.
Daily Confession: Thank you Jesus for dying for me. I receive your life and cling to the Old Rugged Cross, amen.
Intercessory prayer: Pray for the nation of Turkey for God’s intervention, provision and God’s mercy. May this situation draw people to Jesus, amen.
Hymn: So I’ll cherish the old rugged cross,
till my trophies at least I lay down;
I will cling to the old rugged cross,
and exchange it someday for a crown.
