The Word of God (II)

Your word I have treasured and stored in my heart, That I may not sin against You (Psalm 119:11, AMP)

Bible Reading: Psalm 119:9-16

Still on the word of God as a basic prerequisite for a holy living. The Psalmist offers us some guidance on the ways to live for God. He queries: How can a young man keep his way pure? By keeping watch [on himself] according to Your word [conforming his life to Your precepts]. (Psalm 119:9, AMP). Purity of spirit, soul and body is important to our walk with God. This can only be done by diligently guarding our hearts through the word of God (Proverbs 4:23). Although we live in a perverse generation, we can be preserved by the word of God because it is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path (Psalm 119:105). When we are guided by the word, we can then speak boldly to the world about God. Dear friends, use the provision of God’s word to set your affection on things above. Here’s how the book of Proverbs puts it: ‘above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it’. (Proverbs 4:23, NIV).

Action Point: Read Psalm 119

Intercessory prayer: I pray for fresh hunger for God’s word over my city (mention the name of your city). Pray that God will raise labourers who will preach the word of God both in season and out of season.

Hymn: We have an anchor that keeps the soul
steadfast and sure while the billows roll;
fastened to the Rock which cannot move,
grounded firm and deep in the Saviour’s love!
