Let there be Revival (VI)

“And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.” Acts 2:2-4

Bible Reading: Acts 1: 4- 15

For the past few days, we have been reflecting on the right motives to desire, pray and position ourselves for revival. While there’s a need for revival, God is never in a hurry and He desires that His people align with Him because two cannot work together unless they agree (Hosea 4:6).

Meanwhile, God needs willing and yielded hearts.  He is never in a hurry to compromise His standard. He desires we come as we are but accept the saving grace which is in Christ Jesus so that we do not remain the way.  He desires those that will live in righteousness and holiness without which no one can see the Lord (Hebrews 12:14). He desires those that will show their faith through actions and obediently follow God. He desires those that their love for God and compassion for the lost will move them to evangelize and make Jesus Christ the centre of their lives. He desires those that will understand who they are in Christ Jesus and the hope to which they have been called which is to show forth the light of Christ.

Finally, we cannot do anything without the Holy Spirit. No wonder Jesus Christ after His resurrection told His disciples to tarry in Jerusalem until they are endowed with Power from on high (Acts 1:4). After the disciples received the Promise of the Father, the story of the timid, fearful, doubtful and faithless disciples changed because there was an empowerment that came from above. That same power is available to us today because on the last day, God says through His servant, prophet Joel, I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, and your young men shall see visions. Even on the male and female servants in those days I will pour out my Spirit (Joel 2:28-29, ESV).

May our pursuit truly be to please God and show forth His glory. May Christ dwell in us through the word of God and the Holy Spirit so that we can partner with Him for this end time revival.

Self-Reflection: Revival should be God-centered rather than self-gratifying.

Action Point: Pray for revival and evangelize about the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Hymn: When the pow’r of God descended

             On the day of Pentecost

All the days of waiting ended

            They received the Holy Ghost.
