What reward awaits You?

“Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day,and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.”

2 Timothy 4:8 KJV

 Bible Reading: 2 Timothy 4:8-22

When I was in high school, the prize given day was important to students, and parents. On that day, the student with the highest score in any subject is recognized, acknowledged, and rewarded with prizes in front of parents, fellow students, families and friends, and the entire community. Thus, many students worked hard to be accorded such honour, and showered with accolades. Similar experiences abound in competitions, and offices etc.

In today’s reading, Apostle Paul did not only declare his heavenly reward for successfully finishing his Christian race, he revealed that God has planned the same reward for His children, the crown of righteousness. He reminds us that God is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him (Hebrews 11:6). In another epistle, Paul writes therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labour in the Lord is not in vain(I Corinthians 15:58).

Furthermore, Apostle Paul personally acknowledged individuals who were faithful, supportive, helpful, and committed to his ministry. He also mentioned ministers who had backslided, and persons who obstructed, and opposed his ministry. God’s work will either be supported or opposed, however, in the midst of opposition, it is important to always remember that nothing can be done against the truth but only for the truth,(2 Corinthians 13:8).

Just like the prize given day, there will be the day of reckoning. Dear friends, we do not have a high Priest who is unfaithful and unjust. He rewards us accordingly both in heaven and on earth. Although the motivation for our service unto God should not be rewards or gains, rather it should be a product of love for God. Continually reflect on these: Do you know Jesus, and what reward will your works attract? To what extent do you support or oppose God’s work in your life, in others, and in your spectrum of influence?

Action Point: Take a step to support God’s work today!

Daily Confession: Lord Jesus help me to sow to advance your kingdom so that I can receive the crown of righteousness on the Judgement Day. Lord, help me meet a kingdom need daily in my neighborhood, community and nations at large.

Hymn: I surrender all,

             I surrender all,

All to Thee, my blessed Saviour,

             I surrender all.
