Mighty to Save

“The Lord thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing.” Zephaniah 3:17 KJV

 Bible Reading: Gideon 6

The Bible is full of stories of small people that knocked down giants. Stories of God’s miraculous acts manifested through people who trusted God even though the society disregarded. For instance, King David did not come from a noble family and Esther was a Jew in a foreign land. What of Deborah, Moses, Daniel and the three Hebrew men, Mary and Jesus? God exalts the lowly as He gives grace to the humble and resists the proud. These individuals humbled themselves, trusted the Lord and He miraculously showed them His power to save. May God help you to trust Him and experience His power at work in every area of your life in Jesus name.

Today’s Bible portion is about Gideon. Gideon led the Israelites to battle against the Midianites who oppressed and enslaved the children of Israel. The story is an interesting one because it reveals God’s awesome power. It shows that many times, God uses foolish things to confound the wise because God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty (1 Corinthians 1:27). For instance, although Gideon came from Manasseh, the weakest clan, and he was the least in his father’s house, like the last born, God brought deliverance to the Israelites through him (Judges 6:15).

Furthermore, Gideon’s story teaches us that as long as we trust in the Lord and His ability, He will work mightily in and through us. It shows that our competency is not of ourselves, hence, blessed is the man that trusts in the Lord and whose hope the Lord is (Jeremiah 17:7; 2 Corinthians 3:5). Even though we have judged ourselves by our circumstances, God sees beyond our present situation. He sees our future and His ability in us only if we can allow Him work mightily in us as we surrender all unto Him. Until Gideon accepted God’s revelation and vision of him, Gideon was unable to carry out God’s assignment.

At the end, God reduced thirty-two thousand armies and Gideon led only three hundred soldiers to the battle because God does not want to share His glory with any man (Judges 7:2). Dear friends, look unto God through Christ Jesus regardless of that situation. Perhaps, God is asking you to take a bold step of faith and do something that you think is beyond your human ability. I encourage you to trust His leading because they that look unto Him are lightened: and their faces are not ashamed (Psalm 34:5).

Daily Confession: Lord Jesus thank you for Your unceasing grace and unfailing power at work in my life. Help me to continually trust you with my life in Jesus name. Amen

Hymn: What a friend we have in Jesus

All our sins and griefs to bear,

And what a privilege to carry,

Everything to God in prayer .
