The Lord’s Word (III)
He lets me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still and quiet waters. Psalm 23:2 [AMP]
Bible Reading: Psalm 23
This year is a year of unprecedented abundance. I have come to realize and appreciate God’s generosity. The generosity of God is part of His love for His creation and children. For instance, God did not send just anybody to die for our sins, He sent His only begotten Son. He could have sent his angels (He’s got innumerable numbers of them!) (Revelation 5:11). Whatever God does, He does it in abundance just like He gave willingly. He also heals perfectly.
In today’s Bible reading, the Psalmist introduces us to different dimensions of the Good Shepherd. He identifies where the green pasture is and makes us rest there. This helps us to understand the responsibilities of the shepherd and our role as the flock. God let us rest in green meadows if we let Him. Total submission is required from the flock to access the provisions of the Shepherd. We are God’s flock. Where God will let us lie down is important, green pastures. God’s generosity means that He will take us to green pastures where we will be well-fed and rest. Green pasture is a place of nourishment, rest, peace, and contentment. He doesn’t necessarily lead us to lush green cattle pastures where we have everything in abundance. No, God’s generosity also means He leads us along the right paths through the little sprigs of grass giving us just enough for our daily bread (Matthew 6:11). This is because the Shepherd meets our needs. In our dry season, he brings rain and quench our thirst.
Dear friends, God is committed to His word, and He will be generous with you in the journey of this year because that is who He is. He’s calling you to follow Him sincerely. No shepherd can direct the flock of another shepherd. God wants to you to be in His flock so that you can access the benefit of the Good Shepherd.
Self-Reflection: God’s generosity also means He leads us along the right paths through the little sprigs of grass giving us just enough for our daily bread
Action Point: Thank the Lord for your daily bread this year.
Intercessory prayer: Pray for God’s provision for orphans, widows, widowers, and those who are in needs around you.
Hymn: Trust and obey
For there is no other way,
To be happy in Jesus
But to trust and obey.
