The Lord’s Word (VI)

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Psalm 23:5

Bible Reading: I Kings 4:1-7

Get ready for God’s blessing this year because it is God who gives power to make wealth (Deuteronomy 8:18). Get ready for an overflow of God’s blessing in your life. We have been working through our theme scripture for the year for the past few days. God has promised to bless you this year. Specifically, He will prepare a table before you in the presence of your enemies and anoint your head with oil and your cup will overflow. If God says it, He will do it.

From today’s Bible reading, a widow (whose late husband was one of the sons of the prophets) was in dire need and came to prophet Elisha for help. She needed money to pay back the creditor who demanded that her two sons be his slaves because their late father owed him. Prophet Elisha asked her “what do you have in the house?” She replied that she’s got a jar of oil. Elisha gave her instruction and she was blessed.

The widow teaches us profound lessons: in the face of the opposition, she ran to the right place for help. Go to God in prayer and share your challenges with the right people who can point you in the right direction. Secondly, she had a strategy. What’s your strategy? Instead of focusing on your enemy or your problem, focus on Jesus. Focus on the solution not the problem. Change your mindset and let it align with God’s word. The enemy will show up but God will raise a standard against them (Isaiah 59:19).

Finally,  God blessed what she’s got. Dear friends, what is it in your hand? God is not a magician. He cannot bless idleness or laziness. God is ready and willing to bless the work of your hand. If you do not have work, I pray that God will provide you a job. If you have a job but it seems things are not working, I pray for God to step in, give you uncommon ideas, and the grace that will turn things around in Jesus name.

Action Point: Pray for God to bless your work this year. You will not labour in vain.

Intercessory prayer: Pray for safety, protection and blessing as students return to school for a new term.

Hymn: Trust and obey

For there’s no other way

To be happy in Jesus.

Than to trust and obey.

For there’s no other way

To be happy in Jesus,

Than to trust and obey.
