The Miracle of Sight: What kind of sight do you have?
For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins. 2 Peter 1:8-9
Bible Reading: 2 Peter 1:5-9
Apostle Peter, in our Bible reading today, outlines various virtues that we need to add to our faith so that we can be fruitful in our walk with God. If these fruits are not evident in our lives, he says we are sight sighted. We will focus on the virtues outlined in the Bible passage for the next few days.
First, it starts with our faith in Jesus Christ. Apostle Peter started from the most important position, a life totally surrendered to Jesus. “And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue…” (2 Peter 1:5). Faith in Jesus Christ is the beginning of everything. It is the foundation to build the virtues Apostle Peter identified. Dear friends, have you given your life to Jesus? This is an opportunity to surrender your life to Jesus.
Secondly, an attitude, disposition, and mindset are needed, “giving all diligence.” It is interesting that Apostle Peter used the word “diligence” because Apostle Paul says that “whoever comes to God must believe that He exists and He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him” (Hebrew 11:6). Your pursuit of God must be characterized by diligence. You must be persistent, consistent, and hardworking in your pursuit of God. A lazy person cannot seek God; therefore, seek God with the whole of your heart.
Self-Reflection: Are you seeking God in all diligence?
Daily Confession: Lord, help me seek you with the whole of my heart.
Intercessory prayer: Pray for God’s peace across nations.
Hymn: We have an anchor that keeps the soul
steadfast and sure while the billows roll;
fastened to the Rock which cannot move,
grounded firm and deep in the Saviour’s love!
