The Miracle of Sight
For this very reason, applying your diligence [to the divine promises, make every effort] in [exercising] your faith to, develop moral excellence, and in moral excellence, knowledge [insight, understanding]. 2 Peter 1:5 [AMP]
Bible Reading: 2 Peter 1:5-9
Yesterday, we reiterated that everything starts with our faith in Jesus Christ. Apostle Peter’s admonition started from the most important thing, faith. Without faith in Jesus, the zeal to add these virtues to our lives will only result in dead works. Believing in the redemptive work of Jesus Christ in Jesus Christ is the beginning of everything. Afterwards, the Holy Spirit empowers us to do and to will for God’s glory (Philippians 2:13). Once this foundation is sorted, the next thing is to develop moral excellence or good character in your faith. Good character is important because it reflects if you are truly a child of God. A good character has to be developed; it requires discipline, consistency and perseverance. Good character adds credibility to your faith to show that you are truly a child of God. Apostle Peter reminds us of Jesus’ commandment, “let your light so shine before men that they may see your good words and glorify your father who is in heaven” (Matthew 5:16). Dear friends, your faith is a seed that has to germinate to produce fruits of righteousness, thus as you add these virtues through reading, meditating and living by God’s word, you are becoming like Jesus. I encourage you to embrace God’s word today because it transforms.
Self-Reflection: What good character do you need to add to your faith?
Daily Confession: Lord, help me seek you with the whole of my heart.
Intercessory prayer: Pray for God’s peace across nations.
Hymn: We have an anchor that keeps the soul
steadfast and sure while the billows roll;
fastened to the Rock which cannot move,
grounded firm and deep in the Saviour’s love!
