The Miracle of Sight: Add Godliness

But godliness actually is a source of great gain when accompanied by contentment [that contentment which comes from a sense of inner confidence based on the sufficiency of God]. 1 Timothy 6:6 (AMP)

Bible Reading: 1 Timothy 6:6-10

Godliness refers to being inclined to God and to pursue holiness in conduct, attitude, and thought. Throughout Apostle Paul’s epistles to Timothy, he admonishes Timothy about godliness because true godliness is rooted in the mystery of Christ (1 Timothy 3:16; 4:6). Godliness demands total submission and obedience unto God because if we truly love Jesus, we will obey Him. This means that godliness helps us to focus on Jesus, the author and the finisher of our faith. Godliness will make our eyes single because our attention won’t be divided between God and mammon; our focus will be on Jesus. He will become our Centre of affection. Joseph shows godliness throughout his life. For instance, when Potiphar’s wife insisted on having an ungodly relationship with him due to Joseph’s fear and reverence for God, considering the fact that he was inclined to God, he refused and faced the consequences (Genesis 39). Dear friends, godliness is an important virtue to add to your faith. Dear friends, pursue godliness, be inclined to God and let holiness be your watchword in thoughts, words, and deeds.

Hymn: We have an anchor that keeps the soul

steadfast and sure while the billows roll;

fastened to the Rock which cannot move,

grounded firm and deep in the Saviour’s love!
