The Miracle of Sight: Add Brotherly Kindness
Now concerning brotherly love, you have no need for anyone to write to you, for you yourselves have been taught by God to love one another. I Thessalonians 4:19
Bible Reading: Luke 10:29-34
The Bible was not silent about brotherly love (Proverbs 10:12; I Corinthians 13). We are to love God and love one another (Mark 12:30-31). Apostle Paul puts it thus: “Now concerning brotherly love you have no need for anyone to write to you, for you yourselves have been taught by God to love one another.” (Romans 12:9). God is love. He exemplified His love by sending His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, to die for our sins (John 3:16). God has taught us to love one another because, according to Jeremiah 31:33-34, God will write his law on the hearts of his people and directly teach them by the Holy Spirit as part of the new covenant. As Christians, we already know this reality (1 John 2:27, and when we love, we fulfill the law (Rom. 13:8–10; cf. Lev. 19:18; John 13:34).
Today’s Bible reading is the famous story, “The Good Samaritan” who showed brotherly kindness to his neighbour. Jesus presents this parable to us to change our perspective about who our neighbour is and to show us what brotherly kindness means. Like the Samaritan in our story, he earned the name ‘good’ because he was good. We don’t know his name, however, we have come to know him through his action. Dear friends, in our thoughts, deeds and actions, let us show brotherly kindness. It is not the kindness that we do expecting something in return. Rather, it a loving gesture that show that we genuinely care regardless of what people do. Here’s how Apostle puts it: “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” (Galatians 6:9)

Hymn: We have an anchor that keeps the soul
steadfast and sure while the billows roll;
fastened to the Rock which cannot move,
grounded firm and deep in the Saviour’s love!
