Recipe for Divine Direction (IV)

Trust in and rely confidently on the Lord with all your heart, And do not rely on your own insight or understanding. Proverbs 3:5 [AMP]

Bible Reading:  I Kings 13:11-25

God still directs, instructs, teaches, guides and counsels. As a child of God, divine direction is central to your life. Here’s God’s assurance, “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.” (Psalm 32:8). The Bible contains examples of how God guided different individuals in their destiny journey. Some listened while others disobeyed. When God leads us, we are to obey because, without obeying, it is as good as God did not lead us. An example is from our Bible reading today. The young prophet was given specific instruction, “for it was said to me by the word of the Lord, ‘You shall neither eat bread nor drink water there nor return by the way that you came.'” (vs 17). Unfortunately, the young prophet listened to the old prophet and acted contrary to God’s instruction. He paid for it with his dear life. While there are many lessons to learn from the story, I would like to highlight one related to our discussion, obedience because “to obey is better than sacrifice, And to heed [is better] than the fat of rams.” (I Samuel 15:22). Dear friends, if we obey God in one instruction, then He can bring us the next instructions because every instruction requires obedience. God will direct you as you continue to trust, acknowledge, and obey Him.

Daily Confession: Lord, I receive the grace to obey at all times. I uproot every seed of disobedience and rebellion in my life in Jesus’ name.

Intercessory Prayer: Pray for your children for grace to be obedient first to God and to those the Lord places over them to guide and instruct them. Pray that the Lord will guide their mentors and teachers.

Hymn: Trust and obey

For there’s no other way

To be happy in Jesus,

Than to trust and obey
