An Intentional Decision (III): Love God

“Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment.” Matthew 22:36-38

Bible Reading: Matthew 22:36-40

Love the Lord your God. To love God is to set our affection and devotion upon Him. The call to love God is the call to surrender and submit all unto Him. The emphasis is on ALL. Love the Lord with ALL YOUR HEART, ALL YOUR SOUL, AND ALL YOUR MIND. If we love God, to please Him will be a delight for us. In fact, to die for His cause if and when necessary won’t be an issue for us because love means full commitment. We will obey Him if we love Him because obedience is evidence of love. Jesus puts it thus: “If you [really] love Me, you will keep and obey My commandments” (John 14:15). We don’t love by mere words; true love is in actions. Does your action show that you love God? Dear friends, another intentional decision you must make is to love God despite the cost because taking your cross and following Jesus will cost you something (Luke 9:23-24). If we love God, we will long for fellowship with Him because we desire to communicate with the person we love. To conclude the matter, John the Beloved writes: “For the [true] love of God is this: that we habitually keep His commandments and remain focused on His precepts. And His commandments and His precepts are not difficult [to obey]” (1 John 5:3).

Daily Confession: I yield my life unto You– help me to love you in all I do in Jesus’ name.

Intercessory prayer: Pray for God’s leading, wisdom and grace for effective ministry for your pastor.

Hymn: I have decided to follow Jesus,

I have decided to follow Jesus,

I have decided to follow Jesus,

No turning back, no turning back
