Serving God’s Purpose (I)

But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD.” Joshua 24:15c

Bible Reading: Joshua 24:15-16

Yesterday, we started a new series, “Serving God’s Purpose”. We emphasize the fact that we have to serve someone or something. It may be others or even self, money or even one’s passion or vision . Whichever way, we have to serve. Being in service means to perform a role, or a function. It requires using one’s resource either directly or indirectly in order to accomplish the task.

In our Bible reading today, Joshua confronts the children of Israel and ask them to choose who they will serve. The decision to choose whether to serve the Lord or not is important because it determines who we belong to and what to spend our life on. Joshua being a good leader declared that as for him and his household, they have chosen to serve the Lord. Dear friends, serve the Lord with all your heart. Serve Him where you are. Do everything as unto the Lord, in thoughts, words and actions.

Finally there are rewards for serving the Lord. “…the one who does the will of God and carries out His purposes lives forever.” (I John 2:17)

Daily Confession: I choose to serve your purpose in my generation in Jesus’ name.

Intercessory prayer: Pray for God’s leading, wisdom and grace for effective ministry for your leaders.

Hymn: I have decided to follow Jesus,

I have decided to follow Jesus,

I have decided to follow Jesus,

No turning back, no turning back
