Do You Know Who You Are? (IV)

And the angel of the Lord appeared to him and said to him, “The Lord is with you, O mighty man of valor.” (Judges 6:12)

Bible Reading: Judges 6

Although what Gideon said was right, did you know he was NOT the truth? Gideon’s conclusion based on the assessment of his situation was the natural thing to do because seeing is believing in the earthly realm. His present circumstance did not align with the reality of God’s word. Was he truly a man of valor? However, in God’s kingdom, believe precedes seeing (Hebrews 11:1). Our sight is not defined by what we can see physically, rather it is by the things our spiritual eyes can see (Genesis 13:14). God was also speaking to Gideon from the lens of the future rather than the lens of the past or the present.

Gideon and the children of Israel had been seriously oppressed. There is a way a certain situation can condition someone’s mindset. Similar thing happened in Exodus 6:9Moses reported this to the Israelites, but they did not listen to him because of their discouragement and harsh labor.” We have to trust God to help us see beyond the present circumstance because no matter the level you are, God is more and has more for you. God is faithful. He meets us at our level while he calls us to come up. Gideon needed an assurance that God was truly with them. He puts fleece before God and God answered to give Gideon the assurance. Gideon would lead the Israelites for their freedom from the Midians and other enemies. Dear friends, it starts with know your identity in Christ. If you there’s an miracle I pray for you today, it is the miracle of opened sight and understanding to know who you are in Christ. I invite you to list all the negative views you hold about yourself and list what God’s words says in counter of those views.

Action Point: Identify a Bible verse that speaks to the core of your identity in Christ.

Intercessory Prayer: We pray for anyone facing identity crisis around us to encounter Jesus

Hymn: Amazing grace! how sweet the sound,

That saved a wretch; like me!

I once was lost, but now am found,

Was blind, but now I see.
