Be Strong and Courageous (III)

Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do. Joshua 1:8, NLT

Bible reading: Joshua 1:6-9

The command to be strong and courageous does not exist in a vacuum. Strength and courage don’t just come. You have to foster the right environment. If God’s command to Joshua, ‘Do not be afraid,’ did not require anything from Joshua, then God would have ended there. Rather, God knew that there had to be a source to draw strength and courage. God commanded Joshua to be obedient to Moses’ instructions. Specifically, God offered Joshua the secret to success. Joshua’s achievement relies absolutely on this instruction: “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall read [and meditate on] it day and night, so that you may be careful to do [everything] in accordance with all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous and then you will be successful.” (Joshua 1:8)

Read God’s word every day. Think about and reflect on it. Speak or declare it. Follow or obey it. Act on it. After you have done this, you will make your way prosperous and then you will be successful. This is because “God’s word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path”. (Psalm 109:105). God’s word guides, instructs, counsels, and teaches. It is full of wisdom from God.  There is no one who follows God’s word with understanding genuinely who won’t succeed. Dear friends, focus on God’s instruction, let His word transform you and equip you with strength and courage for the journey ahead.

Hymn: Take my life and let it be

consecrated, Lord, to thee.

take my moments and my days;

let them flow in endless praise,

let them flow in endless praise.
