A Heart of Worship (IV)
‘…God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth’ (John 4:24, NIV)
Bible Reading: 1 King 3
There are some remarkable individuals in the Bible who did the unimaginable. For instance, Enoch walked with God that He was no more, Abraham by faith left his country at the word of the Lord, David’s was God’s friend to the point that God declared that David was a man after God’s own heart, Deborah successfully led the army of God, Esther’s determination and sacrifice saved the entire Jewish race in Persia. The list is endless.
In our Bible reading today, king Solomon offered a thousand burnt offerings unto the Lord because he understood that there is no true worship without sacrifice (1 Kings 3:4). Many people think about money immediately the word sacrifice is being mentioned. I am not necessarily referring to money, it is more than material things. Here’s how Apostle Paul explains it: ‘Therefore I urge you, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies [dedicating all of yourselves, set apart] as a living sacrifice, holy and well-pleasing to God, which is your rational (logical, intelligent) act of worship’ (Romans 12:1). Dedicating yourself, your body as a living sacrifice unto the Lord is an act of worship. By extension it means to be set apart for the Lord including your thoughts, your words, your deeds and your ways etc. What’s interesting about king Solomon was that he was dedicated and committed unto the Lord to the point that sacrificing material things did not bother him in any way.
Dear friends, your worship starts with giving all unto Jesus then other things can follow. If you give your offering without a true heart unto the Lord, God will not accept it. From our story, king Solomon enjoyed such an amazing grace from God until he departed and turned away to idols. Let’s be careful lest we fall. May God help us to be wholly dedicated unto God.
