“Abide in Me”: Why It Is Important? (III)
Not that we are sufficiently qualified in ourselves to claim anything as coming from us, but our sufficiency and qualifications come from God. [2 Corinthians 3:5, AMP]
Another reason why abiding in Jesus is mandatory is that our sufficiency is in and of Him so abiding in Him is critical to our thriving and fruit-bearing as children of God, “…for without me ye can do nothing” (John 15:5c). All the time we must emphasize the need for Jesus in our lives. Across the nations, in small and large places, in whatever we do, confessing that without Jesus we are nothing but with Him we are everything He wants us to be is crucial to our thriving as Christians. This was exactly King David’s strategy in life. In our Bible reading today, David faced the giant Goliath in the name of Jesus. David relied only on God. Even when armour and other war gadgets were given to him, he said no because he preferred to go with his simple but powerful strategy. David has been abiding in the Lord and he saw how God helped him in the field when wild animals attacked his father’s flock. David overcame them through the power of the Lord. He knew that with God on his side, the battle was won. David killed Goliath and that’s the end of the story. No wonder in Psalm 20:7 he says, ‘some trust in chariots and some in horses, But we will remember and trust in the name of the Lord our God’. (Psalm 20:7). Dear friends, abiding in Jesus is the only way we can live bearing fine and good fruits for the Lord. The truth is we can do nothing of ourselves except we are helped by the Lord. The earlier we allow this truth to sink into our lives and pattern our lives to show absolute dependence on God, the better for us.
Daily Confession: I receive the grace to abide in You, Jesus.
Intercessory Prayer: Continue to remember the people affected by the earthquake in Turkey and Syria for God’s intervention, healing for the land and provision.
Hymn: Stand up for Jesus
Ye soldiers of the cross;
Lift high His royal banner,
It must not suffer loss.
