After This Marathon, What’s Next? (IV)
“Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 3:13-14, NIV)
Bible Reading: I Kings 19
Elijah just experienced two great spiritual victories: the defeat of the prophets of Baal and the answered prayer for rain. His victory brought the fear of God upon the entire nation. Despite these victories, Elijah experienced fatigue and discouragement. Oftentimes discouragement sets in after great spiritual experiences, especially those requiring physical effort or involving great emotion. How did God address the situation? God refreshed Elijah. Elijah ate and rested. He recuperated spiritually, and God redirected him to return to the mission. Dear friends, continue to wait upon the Lord because it’s in His presence we can be strengthened and equipped for the journey ahead. No matter the giant strides of yesterday or today, tomorrow is better and we can’t live in the strength of the past. I’m excited you went through a series of fasting and prayer at the beginning of the year. I encourage you not to stop seeking God and spend quality time in His presence. Finally, Prophet Elijah anointed Hazael and Jehu as kings and Elisha as a prophet.
Daily Confession: I continue to seek the Lord with the whole of my life in Jesus’ name.
Intercessory prayer: I pray for spiritual stamina and wisdom for living for every Christian in my sphere of influence in Jesus’ name.
Hymn: I’m pressing on the upward way
New heights I’m gaining every day
Still praying as I upward bound,
Lord, plant my feet on higher ground.
