Are You Shortsighted?

“But if you do not have these qualities, you are so shortsighted that you cannot see and have forgotten that you have been purified from your past sins.” 2 Peter 1:9 GNT

 Bible Reading: 2 Peter 1:5-9

Few years ago, I had an eye problem and the optician diagnosed that it was an eye condition called myopia. Myopia is an eyesight abnormality resulting from the eye’s faculty reflective ability. To have myopia means inability to see what’s afar because distant objects appear blurred. It means one can only see what’s immediate. That is why when someone is said to be myopic, it means that person lacks imagination, foresight and at times, intellectual insight. Then, I could not see objects from afar until objects were close to me.

It is interesting that the Bible considers anyone that does not possess certain qualities as shortsighted.  Apostle Peter admonished God’s children to add to faith goodness, to goodness knowledge, knowledge to self-control, self-control to perseverance, to godliness, brotherly kindness and to brotherly kindness love. If one does not possess these virtues, it means one is nearsighted and blind. To be shortsighted in faith means one is unproductive and ineffective in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

May God help us to be faithful stewards entrusted with such a bold faith. May we possess these qualities in increasing measure so that we can be productive and fruitful until the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Self-Reflection: Short-sightedness is a limitation.

Daily Confession: I have foresight because God’s Spirit dwells within me. I live for the Lord alone.

Hymn: Only remembered, only remembered,

             Only remembered by what we have done;

             Thus would we pass from the earth and its toiling,

              Only remembered by what we have done.
