At Your Word
“Simon replied, “Master, we worked hard all night [to the point of exhaustion] and caught nothing [in our nets], but at Your word I will [do as you say and] lower the nets [again].” (Luke 5:5, AMP)
Bible Reading: Luke 5:1-11
No situation remains the same in the instance of God’s word. At the word of the Lord, mountains move, dry bones come back to life, the dead are raised to life, the barren are fruitful, and lives are transformed. All these can happen because where the word of a king is, there is power (Ecclesiastes 8:4). In our Bible reading today, Simon Peter exercised a childlike faith. He had worked all night with no result. He was an expert in his own right, and he knew the trade. For instance, he knew the time to catch fish (at night), and he took his crew into the deep. All his knowledge and years of experience proved nothing. Then Jesus intervened. He stepped into Simon’s boat to preach and afterwards commanded Simon to cast his net again. It is Simon’s response that’s our focus. Despite Simon’s experience and expertise, despite the disappointment of a fruitless night amidst exhaustion, Simon responded to Jesus’ words. The only reason he obeyed was that it was Jesus. He would have used his earthly wisdom after all from indications; he was right. But refused to allow his five senses and his reasoning to stop him from responding to God. At the word of Jesus, Simon threw his net in the deep, and he had a bountiful catch that his net couldn’t hold, so he had to call others. Dear friends, I encourage you to stay to hear God’s word about that situation and when He speaks, act according to his word even if it defiles human reasoning. Like Simon, let your response be ‘at Your word’ I will do it.

Intercessory prayer: Pray for God’s healing upon your household
Hymn: Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.
