Be Strong and Courageous (IV)

“God hath not given us the spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind” (1 Timothy 1:7, KJV)

Bible Reading: 1 Samuel 17

It takes courage and confidence to stand in opposition with Goliath. A boldness that comes from the Spirit of the Lord because Goliath by physical attributes is terrifying. Thank God the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds (2 Corinthians 10:4). It is this very revelation David had and he faced Goliath headon. While Israeli armies caved in, David cheerfully and decisively faced the giant with an absolute trust in the Lord. From our reading today, David says to the Philistine, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.” (1 Samuel 17:45). Amidst the suggestion to take on king Saul’s armour which was too heavy for David, God revealed to David the strategy to engage in the fight. David obeyed and he won the conquest for the Lord.

Like God’s instruction to Joshua, fear is not of the Lord. Faith and confidence comes from our relationship with Him. Through our walk with the Lord, He gives us practical insight, ideas, wisdom and strategies and on the situation. Dear friends, let faith arise in you by spending time in God’s word. Build up your most holy faith and trust Him in that situation.

Daily Confession: No need for fear because “God hath not given us the spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind” in Jesus name (1 Timothy 1:7, KJV)

Intercessory Prayer: Lord, we pray for peace across different nations where there is turmoil in Jesus’ name.

Hymn: Take my life and let it be

consecrated, Lord, to thee.

take my moments and my days;

let them flow in endless praise,

let them flow in endless praise.
