Bless the Lord Always

“Bless the Lord, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name.”

Psalms 103:1

 Bible Reading: Psalms 34:1-8

How would you feel if you got accolades everyday? Good right!!!  In the Western part of Nigeria, the local drum player plays and sings accolades to a particular person at an event calling his name. He would not mind if he had transportation back home because he would spend extravagantly on the drum player for their praises. Living a thankful life is a choice we must make as children of God, regardless of our circumstance. God deserves the praise of His people so we must give him quality praise and worship all the days of our lives. Praising God is the exclusive reserve of the living, Isaiah 38:18-19. The dead, no matter how influential or powerful he may be, as it were, cannot offer praise to God. God is glorified when we praise and acknowledge Him at all times and in all things.

Most times, we get discouraged by our situations, unanswered requests and anxieties about the future that we find it difficult to praise God as we ought to. See what the Bible says in Ecclesiastes 9:4 “For to him that is joined to all the living there is hope: for a living dog is better than a dead lion”. While we are still breathing, we must praise the Lord. Let us consider some of the things we are to praise God for.

Firstly, for giving us breath. Imagine if we are to pay for every single breath that we breathe? How much will it cost on a daily basis? For some, it would simply drain all their life’s investment while others are simply unable to afford it. Isaiah 42:5 says God is the one who gives breath to all the people of the earth, hence we must praise him for giving us the breath of life.

Again, we must praise God because of His benefits which includes answered prayers, I sought the Lord, and He heard me, and delivered me from all my fears Psalms 34:4. Our God is too faithful to fail, He is dependable, all-sufficient, magnificent, powerful and reliable. The many other reasons to bless God are clearly spelt out in the remaining verses of Psalms 103; He forgives our sins, heals us, redeems us and blesses us. If He is your God and you continue to serve Him wholeheartedly without looking back, He will definitely give you more reasons to praise Him.

Self-Reflection: The best time to praise God is NOW!

Daily Confession: Father, I thank you because of your greatness in my life, family and this nation.

Hymn: Oh, for a thousand tongues to sing

                My great Redeemer‚’s praise

The glories of my God my King

                The triumphs of His grace!
