Bless the Lord Always (II)

“I will bless the Lord at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth.”

Psalms 34:1

 Bible Reading: Psalms 34:1-10

Yesterday we reflected on thanksgiving and the enormous blessings we receive when we give thanks to the Lord.  It is a deliberate choice to make. Regardless of the situation one is passing through, the decision to be grateful is a faith-driven choice that shifts our focus away from that situation unto God who is in-charge of everything. Even when everything is going on well around us, when we show our gratitude to God, we are acknowledging and honouring Him as the One who has done for us what nobody can do. Glory to God!

Most times when we admonish ourselves to show gratitude to the Lord we often speak of unpalatable situations. That’s because it seems it is easier to show gratitude when everything is going well. However, giving God all the adoration, thanksgiving and praises should be a lifestyle. The Psalmist says, ‚I will bless the Lord at all times and His praises shall continually be on my mouth “(Psalms 34:1). This reveals to us that praising God should be part of our life.

Furthermore, it is not what we do passively or once a day. I will praise Him and His praises shall continually be in my mouth. Thanksgiving is an act hence, it is active. When we live in the consciousness and understanding that all that we do should give God glory and we are deliberate in offering thanksgiving and praises unto the Lord, then we are actively engaging the power of praise. Praise is not location bound. It is not until a song is played or we are gathered in the church in the assembly of God’s children that we should praise the Lord, we should praise Him every day and at all times.

Finally, there is a sacrifice of praise. Apostle Paul said, ‚through Him [Jesus Christ], therefore, let us at all times offer up to God a sacrifice of praise, which is the fruit of lips that thankfully acknowledge and confess and glorify His name (Hebrews 13:15). Dear friends, the act of singing songs, playing instruments and dancing to thank the Lord etc are actions that have to come from a heart that is dedicated unto Christ Jesus. A heart that believes in Jesus Christ.

Daily Confession: I will bless the Lord at all times and His praises shall continually be in my mouth.
