Daily Devotional – ‘In His Footstep’

April 5th 2023

Burn the Candle (I)
It is good for a man to bear the yoke [of good discipline] in his youth. (Lamentation 3:27, NIV)
Bible Reading: Hebrews 5:8
The word of God is complete. It contains different examples and responses to situations, and it is written for God’s children to be equipped for every good work (2 Timothy 3:16-17). One of the things God’s word is not silent on is the yoke bearing (discipline) and hard work. For instance, “and whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him” (Colossians 3:17). One of the functions of discipline and hard word is that it helps someone build capacity for what’s ahead. The present generation wants to have everything without first learning discipline, diligence and hard work. Some things can be imparted or transferred to others but not endurance and patience. You must learn discipline and hard work. Of Jesus, it was written: “Even though Jesus was God’s Son, he learned obedience from the things he suffered” (Hebrews 5:8, NLT). Jesus bore his yoke, paid the price and built capacity for His ministry. Dear friends, you have to pay the price now because it gets more costly as the day goes by.
Daily Confession: Lord, help me to bear the yoke in my youth in Jesus’ name.
Intercessory prayer: I pray for youths and children in and around for the grace to embrace discipline and hard work.
Hymn: Only remembered, only remembered,
Only remembered by what we have done;
Thus would we pass from the earth and its toiling,
Only remembered by what we have done.
