Daily Devotional – ‘In His Footstep’

April 24th 2023

By the Power of the Holy Spirit (I)
So he answered and said to me: “This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: ‘Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,’ Says the Lord of hosts. (Zechariah 4:6, NKJV)
Bible Reading: Matthew 26:36-46
There is so much reliance on our power, intellect, skills and experience in the world today. As Christians, we cannot focus on our passion, desires and ability at the expense of shutting the Holy Spirit out of our lives. If we can only recognize how much we need the Holy Spirit, we will rely on Him more every day. Jesus is our perfect example. From our Bible today, Jesus had to cry to His Father (God) in the Garden of Gethsemane. From the arms of the flesh, the cross was an impossible task. Jesus even confessed to Peter and the two sons of Zebedee that His soul was very sorrowful, even to death (Matthew 26:36). Jesus later prayed for God to allow this cup to pass from Him but quickly added, “not as I will, but as you will” (Matthew 26:39). Jesus tapped into the power of God and by the Holy Spirit, we have access to such power today. Dear friends, we have to obtain grace to rely on and partner with the Holy Spirit in every area of our lives. I strongly believe we can do exploit for Christ Jesus if we allow the Holy Spirit to work through us and use our intellect, skills and expertise.
Daily Confession: Lord Jesus, help me to put my trust in You daily because, by the arms of flesh, I cannot prevail.
Intercessory prayer: I pray for backsliders for complete restoration in Jesus Christ.
Hymn: Trust and obey
For there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus
But to trust and obey.
