Clean Hands and Pure Heart

Who shall ascend into the hill of the Lord? Or who shall stand in his holy place? He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully. Psalm 24:3-4

Bible Reading: Psalm 24:3-4

God is holy! In the book of Revelation 4:8, we see and hear the song of adoration and worship of God: “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty, who was, and is, and is to come”. Like the prophet Isaiah (Isaiah 6), may we encounter God in His holiness and splendour majesty. I pray that our consciousness will be exposed to the holiness of our heavenly Father in Jesus’ name. We cannot claim to be God’s children and continue to live unholy lives. Our hearts must be circumcised. May God interrupt our lives for His glory so that we can live according to His righteous pattern!

Our Bible reading today is an answer to the question the psalmist asked: ‘Who shall ascend into the hill of the Lord? Or who shall stand in his holy place?’ God specifically instructed Moses how the children of Israel should prepare whenever before His presence could come into their midst. Whoever disobeyed will either die because God is holy. In fact, the Bible enjoins us to make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness, no one will see the Lord (Hebrew 12:14). The psalmist answers, ‘He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart’. To have clean hands and a pure heart is to be holy unto the Lord both inward and outward. You cannot claim to be holy in your heart and it will not affect you on the outside. God does not want His children to live a life of hypocrisy but to be sincere and truthful. It means holiness should affect your choices. As much as God is interested in your heart and the transformation that happens therein, he is similarly interested in what happens on the outside. While others cannot see your heart except God who sees the heart, people can see your hands (your actions and lifestyle etc). The hands (outward) must be in sync with the heart (inward). A pure heart will have an effect on the hands at the end of the day because the inward control the outward. In fact, Jesus said out of the abundant of the heart, the mouth speaks because a good man out of the treasure of his heart brings forth good (Luke 6:45). When I surrendered my life to Jesus Christ, there was a transformation that took place on the inside of me and as time passed by, change started happening on the outside. The wrong things I had the pleasure of doing irritated me and I started making different choices in obedience to God’s word. Dear friends when your heart is pure and your hands are clean, then you will not lift up your soul unto vanity nor swear deceitfully because your heart and your hands will be devoted to doing only one thing, pleasing God.

Daily Confession: Lord Jesus help me to live a life of truth so that my light can shine for the world to see and give glory to my Father who is in heaven.

Intercessory prayer: Pray for ministers of the gospel for God’s grace to stand for Him. Also, pray for new converts for strength to make the right choices for God’s glory.

Hymn: Let others see Jesus in you,

Let others see Jesus in you.

Keep telling the story, be faithful and true;

Let others see Jesus in you.
