Disciples are Disciplined

My son, do not reject or take lightly the discipline of the LORD [learn from your mistakes and the testing that comes from His correction through discipline]; Nor despise His rebuke. For those whom the LORD loves He corrects, Even as a father corrects the son in whom he delights.  Proverbs 3:11-12, AMP

Bible Reading: Hebrews 12:4-17

You have heard the saying, ‘spare the rod, spoil the child’. It doesn’t sound like a common saying again these days, does it? There’s a high intolerance for any form of discipline both from children and surprisingly from many parents. Discipline doesn’t mean wickedness or infliction pain unto others. Rather it means correcting, rebuking and redirecting others. In our Bible reading today, Apostle Paul speaks to matured Christians. His admonishing is indeed not for babies but those who are disciples or interested to be disciples. First, discipline is a show of love because it’s to make whoever we love to be better. Also, there is an attitude that God requires when He disciplines or correct us. It should be that of total submission to Him and acceptance of His discipline so that we can learn and be effective in life and destiny. Dear friends, next time you read God’s word, ask Him if there’s any thing He want to correct in your life. Also, learn from your mistakes. If you sense God is correcting or rebuking you, embrace it and ask Him what He wants you to learn. Ultimately, as a father to a son, God corrects whoever He loves, hence His discipline is a show of His love.

Daily Confession: Lord help me to receive your discipline and correcting with humility of heart and a total submission to your will in Jesus name. Amen

Intercessory Prayer: I pray for God’s provision and protection over families during this season.

Hymn: I surrender all,

I surrender all,

Unto Thee my blessed Saviour,

I surrender all.
