Do Not Be Discouraged (I)
And the LORD said unto Moses, Go in unto Pharaoh: for I have hardened his heart, and the heart of his servants, that I might shew these my signs before him. Exodus 10:1
Bible Reading: Exodus 10
The book of Exodus is about the movement of God’s people out of bondage and slavery. It is also a book about resilience. Moses and Aaron showed a great amount of resilience amidst the opposition. Who could have imagined that despite the miracles God manifested in the land of Eygpt, Pharaoh would have insisted on retaining the children of Israel? In fact, God himself hardened the heart of Pharaoh. The word hardened was used more than eighteen times in the book of Exodus alone. If I was Moses and Aaron, I would have been discouraged because the signs and wonders were not only supernatural, they were obvious and grevious. For instance of the ten plagues, Pharaoh’s magicians could duplicate only two. God wanted His children to leave Egypt in a powerful way while at the same time punish the Egyptian for the maltreatment and enslavement of the people of Israel. I also believe that God used the process to build resilience in Moses because God knew the people of Israel. He knew that the period of slavery in Egypt has turned them into something else. In fact the Bible says, “So Moses told the people of Israel what the Lord has said, but they refused to listen anymore. They had become too discouraged by the brutality of their slavery” (Exodus 6:9). In the next few days, we will studying the book of Exodus highlighting some key lessons. I pray that God will speak His mind to us in Jesus’ name, amen.
Daily Confession: Lord open my eyes to the truth of your word in Jesus.
Intercessory prayer: We pray for healing and grace for tired and wounded leaders (across the seven mountains of influence) so that they can be encouraged to lead in love in Jesus name.
Hymn: Lord, lift me up and let me stand,
By faith, on Heaven’s table land,
A higher plane than I have found;
Lord, plant my feet on higher ground.
