Do Not Be Discouraged (VI)

Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. [3] For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. [4] So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing. (James 1:2-4, NLT)

Bible Reading: Exodus 5

The task ahead was not that simple. Moses was not going to get to Egypt and talk to Pharaoh and the Israelites will be released just like that. It was more complicated and complex. In fact, the first time Moses made the demand to let the people of Israel go and worship the Almighty God, Pharaoh intensified their labour and suffering; and maltreated God’s people the more. Pharaoh showed that he was a ruthless task master. He ordered that no straw be given to the Israelites, yet they have to produce the number of bricks daily. God’s people were punished without committing any offense. Moses had to call unto God after he was confronted by the Israelites foremen. In today’s memory scriptures, we are encouraged to be happy when difficulties come our way. God is working even when we cannot see it (James 1:2-4). Here’s how Life Application Bible Study puts it: “When God is at work, suffering, setbacks, and hardship may still occur. Problems develop our patience and character by teaching us to (1) trust God to do what is best for us, (2) look for ways to honor God in our present situations, (3) remember that God will not abandon us, and (4) watch for God’s plans for us.”

Daily Confession: I encourage myself in the Lord.

Intercessory prayer: We pray for encouragement for anyone who may be discouraged due to situations around them in Jesus’ name.

Hymn: Lord, lift me up and let me stand,

By faith, on Heaven’s table land,

A higher plane than I have found;

Lord, plant my feet on higher ground
