Do Not Be Discouraged (VIII)

Then sang Moses and the children of Israel this song unto the Lord, and spake, saying, I will sing unto the Lord, for he hath triumphed gloriously: the horse and his rider hath he thrown into the sea. (Exodus 15:1, KJV)

Bible Reading: Exodus 15

The exodus of the children of Israel out of Egypt was glorious. It was a triumphant exit because God was with them. It was a case study of perseverance and determination. The song in today’s Bible reading captures the joy and jubilation of both Moses and the Isrealites. Freedom from slavery, abuse, racial discrimination and humiliation. The children of Israel spent 430 years in Egypt (Exodus 12:40-41). This means that after the death of Joseph, his brethren and all that generation, the remaining generations knew Egypt as their home. The song describes God’s faithfulness and consistency. Each word of the song is an encouragement to a fainting heart, never lose hope because God is faithful to his word. Specifically, the song recounts how God parted the Red Sea and delivered the children of Israel from their enemies. Ultimately, the song shows that if we don’t give up, victories and testimonies await us. Dear friends, like Moses, we are encouraged not to lose hope but to focus on Jesus, the author and the finisher of our faith who for the joy set before him, endured the cross (Hebrews 12:2). The call to move out of the known into the unknown maybe scary and everything may not be working out as you have planned, but be confident in the truth that God’s got you. Hold on to God’s word because God’s word is a lamp for your feet, a light on your path (Psalm 119:105). Like Moses, you will share your own story of God’s faithfulness in Jesus name.

Daily Confession: I encourage myself in the Lord.

Intercessory prayer: We pray for encouragement for anyone who may feel discouraged due to situations around them in Jesus’ name.

Hymn: Lord, lift me up and let me stand,

By faith, on Heaven’s table land,

A higher plane than I have found;

Lord, plant my feet on higher ground.
