Do You Know Who You Are? (VII)

But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God. They are reborn—not with a physical birth resulting from human passion or plan, but a birth that comes from God. John 1:12-13, NLT

Bible Reading: Matthew 5:13-16

A major theme we have emphasized throughout this series is this: identity is everything. In fact, understanding one’s identity is key to everything in life. As we wrap up this series, I would like to consider what God says of our identity. If you believe and accept Jesus, you have been given the right to become a child of God. It means you have been reborn of the spirit and you have access to the Father through the Son, Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit lives in you. You have rights and responsibilities in the kingdom of God. As you keep growing in your knowledge of God, you will occupy till He comes (Luke 19:13). In today’s Bible reading, Jesus Christ reminds us that we are the light of the world and the salt of the earth. These two metaphors are powerful and aptly describes who we are as children of God. Salt is so important that without it in any food, its impact will be felt. Same as light. Light is essential to our existence because without light we cannot see anything. We are light bearers. We are a beacon of hope in this world. Dear friends, take the time to know who you are in Christ Jesus. Search God’s word. Pray God’s word into your life and live it daily. Be excited by who you are in Christ because you are who God says you are.

Action Point: Identify and meditate on a Bible verse that speaks about your identity in Christ.

Intercessory Prayer: We pray for children and youths for deeper understanding of their identity in Christ in Jesus.

Hymn: Amazing grace! how sweet the sound,

That saved a wretch; like me!

I once was lost, but now am found,

Was blind, but now I see.
