Faith and Obedience III
That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies. Genesis 22:17
Bible Reading: Genesis 22:15-19
To conclude this series on Faith and Obedience, it is importance to emphasize that we need both attributes if we must have a living relationship with God. Just as Abraham had faith in God’s providence and he was willing to obey God at all cost so must we be willing to surrender all to God as a proof of our faith in him. Obedience can be costly but is rewarding. In response to Abraham’s obedience God reaffirms his promise to Abraham as seen in our Bible reading for today. God promised to bless Abraham with a blessing that only God could fathom. He said “That in blessing I will bless thee…” Genesis 22:17. This kind of blessing could only be attracted through a lifestyle of faith and obedience that Abraham lived. Faith in God and obedience unto him attracts significant blessing, the kind that has no sorrow attached to it. The blessing of the Lord, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it (Proverbs 10:22).
The other promise that God reconfirmed to Abraham was that of multiplication. Multiplication is better than addition when God is involved. God promised to multiply Abraham’s descendants as the stars of heaven and as sand upon the sea. Today, we Christians are referred to as Abraham’s children. And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise (Galatians 3:29). The third blessing God reconfirmed to Abraham was the blessing of all nations of the earth through him. This was a promise that Jesus Christ would come from Abraham’s lineage to fulfill the promise of blessing all nations of the earth. This is recorded in Matthew 1:1-2. In sum, God did promise that Abraham’s seed shall posses the gate of enemies. This attests to our victory in Christ Jesus according to 1John 5:4 “For whosoever is born of God overcometh the world. And this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith”.
Daily Confession: I choose to trust in God and obey him.
Prayer: As I obey God,  I attract the blessings of Abraham upon my life.
Hymn: When we walk with the Lord
In the light of His Word,
What a glory He sheds on our way;
While we do His good will,
He abides with us still,
And with all who will trust and obey.
Trust and obey,
For there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus,
But to trust and obey.
