Faith Dares – Deliverance

Jesus said to him “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes”. Immediately the father of the child cried out and said with tears, “Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!”

Mark 9:14-29 (NKJV)

Bible Reading: Mark 9:14-29

Our Bible today tells the story of a father whose son suffered a life-threatening health attack by an evil spirit. The health condition robbed the son of his speech and listening ability and often threw him into fire or water to kill him-vs 22. The father’s love for his son made him seek help wherever possible. Although he came to Jesus’ disciples first, they could not drive out the spirit because “This kind can come out by nothing but prayer and fasting” vs 29. This teaches us that whenever we wait upon God in prayer and fasting, our faith is strengthened to see beyond every physical challenge and believe in God for the impossible (Luke 18:27). The father’s prayer teaches us an important lesson. “The father of the child cried out and said with tears, ‘Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!” Although he struggled with unbelief, he took a step of faith to believe Jesus. In response, Jesus delivered the boy by rebuking and commanding the evil spirit never to return. The father’s faith contributed to his son’s deliverance. Do you or someone close to you need deliverance? Have you struggled in your strength to set yourself or someone free? Why not turn to Jesus for the deliverance you dearly need? For “God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledges that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” Jesus also said, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the broken-hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives And recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed.” Luke 4:18 (NKJV)

Self-Reflection: If the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. John 8:36 (NIV)

Daily Confession: For God is light, and in Him there is no darkness at all, and whosoever the son of man sets free is free indeed. Therefore, every darkness over my life ceases, and I speak life, freedom and the unending Presence of God in the name of Jesus.

Intercessory prayer: Choose someone you know needs deliverance and pray for them.

Song: There is power in the name of Jesus (3x),

to break every chain, to break every chain, to break every chain.
